It includes secure parking at La Pavona, round-trip boat transportation between La Pavona and Tortuguero, and three guided experiences to explore the best of Tortuguero’s wildlife, rainforest canals, trails, and nocturnal world.

It is ideal for independent travelers, couples, families, and small groups who want an organized Tortuguero experience while driving themselves to the boat departure point.

Itinerary Details

1. Arrival at La Pavona, Parking & Boat Transfer to Tortuguero

Drive on your own to La Pavona, where you will park your vehicle in the designated parking area. From there, you will board the shared boat to Tortuguero.

The boat ride takes you through scenic canals and rivers, offering your first introduction to the rainforest landscape of Tortuguero.

2. Turtle Nesting Tour or Night Walk Alternative

Evening – Exact start time will be informed the day of activity.

During turtle nesting season, from July to October, this package includes the Turtle Nesting Tour, a regulated nighttime experience to observe sea turtles nesting on the beach with authorized local guides.

Outside turtle nesting season, the activity is replaced with a Night Walk, where you may spot frogs, insects, spiders, reptiles, and other nocturnal wildlife.

3. Canoe Tour in Tortuguero National Park

Morning or afternoon

Paddle quietly through the rainforest canals with your naturalist guide and look for monkeys, sloths, caimans, iguanas, toucans, herons, kingfishers, and other wildlife.

This is one of the best ways to experience Tortuguero’s aquatic ecosystems and observe wildlife in a peaceful, low-impact way.

4. Jungle Hike – Jaguar Trail

Morning or afternoon

Walk through the tropical rainforest along the iconic Jaguar Trail, where your guide will help you discover the forest’s plants, animals, and ecological connections.

Possible wildlife sightings include monkeys, amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds, and other rainforest species.

End of Package Experience

At the end of your visit, you will take the return boat from Tortuguero back to La Pavona, where you can collect your vehicle and continue your journey.

Important Notes

• This version is for guests arriving with their own vehicle.
• Land transportation from San José, La Fortuna, Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, or other destinations is not included.
• National Park entrance fee is not included and must be purchased online through the SINAC website.
• The National Park ticket is required for the Canoe Tour and Jaguar Trail hike.
• Turtle nesting is seasonal and regulated. When turtle nesting is not available, the Night Walk is offered instead.
• Bring insect repellent, reusable water bottle, rain protection, and closed-toe shoes.
• Tours operate rain or shine, but activities may be rescheduled in case of extreme weather or unsafe conditions.
• All meeting point details and schedules will be sent before each activity.
